How to use a confused kaomoji in chat
Reply to a confusing message: “You want to meet at 6 am? (・・?)”
Soften a question: “Is this the right file? (・_・?)”
Admit you are lost: “I read it three times (@o@)”
Doubt a claim: “You finished already? (¬_¬)”
One face per message reads best; put it at the end of the line so the question mark sits next to the text it questions.
Where (´・ω・`) and the “huh?” faces come from
Text faces like these grew up on Japanese message boards such as 2channel, where (´・ω・`), nicknamed shobon, became the standard downcast, puzzled face. Japanese keyboards type fullwidth and halfwidth characters, which is why the eyes ・ (katakana middle dot) and the fullwidth @ show up in many faces. Lenny faces came later from English-language forums and use combining marks above the eyes.
